Ugg-Tect

Client: Fantasy Flight Games

Build a fabulous structure using only your caveman words. Ugungu!

You and your team of caveman have some colored blocks that you need to build a structure with. Easy, right? Unfortunately, you can only communicate with grunts and gestures… and a bop of your trusty inflatable club.

We created cards and packaging for Fantasy Flight’s new edition of this game (previously released as Aargh!Tect), as well as the player reference card. Since players are asked to learn another language when playing the game, it was critical that this reference card be clearly accessible.

More about Ugg-Tect

Ugg-Tect is a board game designed by Brian Yu and published by simplyFun. It's a team-based game that combines elements of charades and communication challenges with a prehistoric twist.

In Ugg-Tect, players are divided into two teams: the Cave People team and the Ugg-Tect team. The Cave People team's goal is to construct stone monuments according to specific blueprints, while the Ugg-Tect team's objective is to communicate the necessary instructions to the Cave People using only a series of grunts, gestures, and primitive tools.

The game is played in rounds, with each round consisting of a different monument-building challenge. The Ugg-Tect team selects a blueprint card that illustrates the monument they need to build, but they are not allowed to see the blueprint themselves. Instead, they must communicate the necessary instructions to the Cave People using a limited set of actions and sounds, such as banging on a drum or pointing in certain directions.

The Cave People then attempt to interpret these instructions and construct the monument using large foam blocks representing stone pieces. Communication between the two teams is restricted, adding to the challenge and hilarity of the game.

Points are awarded based on how accurately the Cave People team constructs the monument within a time limit. The Ugg-Tect team also earns points based on their ability to effectively communicate the instructions.

Ugg-Tect is known for its lighthearted and comedic gameplay, as players attempt to decipher primitive signals and gestures while racing against the clock. It's a game that encourages teamwork, creativity, and quick thinking, making it a fun choice for family gatherings or game nights with friends.
