Pedigree is a fast-paced game of animal breeding where players compete to show the very best animals at the Show Ring. The better they do, the more their reputation as a breeder will grow, increasing the worth of their animals.
In addition to the graphic elements, we also provided art direction for Pedigree. We executed a folksy, friendly, state-fair look with the help of artist João Florêncio.

Pedigree is a strategic board game that simulates the complexities of animal breeding and genetics. Each player assumes the role of a breeder aiming to maximize profits and reputation by producing top-quality animals and winning trophies in show rings.
The game revolves around managing two sets of cards: Action Cards and Animal Cards. Action Cards allow players to take various actions such as mitigating disease, advertising, using biotechnology, or hiring assistance to enhance their breeding efforts. Each player selects one of four unique roles (Manager, Showman, Technician, Veterinarian), each with a slightly different set of Action Cards, adding depth to the gameplay.
Animal Cards represent the breeding stock and offspring. Players must make strategic decisions about which animals to breed based on their phenotype (appearance) while recognizing that phenotype doesn't always accurately predict genotype (DNA). The true genetic potential of an animal is only revealed when it produces offspring, unless DNA testing is used in advance.
The game progresses through five years, each consisting of six seasons: Planning, Breeding, Gestation, Birthing, Show, and Market. During these seasons, players breed animals, pay expenses, birth offspring, compete in shows, and decide which animals to keep or sell.
Winning trophies in the Show season boosts a player's reputation, increasing the value of their animals. The game ends when all trophies are awarded, and the player with the most accumulated wealth wins.
While the base game includes a cattle deck, future expansions may introduce decks for other animals such as horses, dogs, sheep, goats, and specific breeds, expanding the game's variety and replay value. Overall, Pedigree offers a deep and engaging experience that combines strategic decision-making with the excitement of animal breeding and competition.
